Chartered Accountancy is a popular career option among ambitious students in India looking out for a safe and secure future. Apart from the sophistication and societal status Chartered Accountancy offers, the comparatively low fees structure also attracts students towards it.
So what does it cost to be a Chartered Accountant?
ICAI Prescribed Fees Structure
CPT Registration Fees and Exam Fees
Registering for a stage or level in CA doesn’t automatically register you for the respective exams too. The ICAI scheme involves separate registration for each stage and exams with separate fees charged for both. While registering for CPT costs Rs. 6000, you would have to dish out an additional 500 rupees to attend the exam.
IPCC Registration and Exam Fees
You will have to spare another Rs.9000 for your IPCC Registration. Appearing for IPCC exams costs you a sum of Rs.1000 per group and Rs.1600 in total if you are writing both the groups together.
100 Hours Information Technology Training Fees
The ITT is a must-attend programme before students join their Articleship Training. It costs you another Rs. 4000 for this 100 hour long course.
35 Hours Orientation Programme Fees
Orientation Programme is another mandatory course to be attended before a student joins his/her Articleship Training. ICAI charges you a fee of 3000 rupees for this week long course.
Articleship Training Registration Fees
Articleship is an unavoidable and integral part of the CA course. ICAI prescribes an Rs.2000 fees for the registration of your Articleship Training.

GMCS – 1 and GMCS – 2
Both the GMCS programs conducted by the ICAI have a prescribed fees or Rs.5500 each.
ICAI charges additional fees from students as penalties for non-filing and delayed filing of required forms and documents. The penalty collected depends on the degree and delay of the offence or non-filing.
Teacher’s Cost (Tuition Fees)
ICAI doesn’t offer a usual college like education system for Chartered Accountancy. Be it CPT, IPCC or CA Finals, most students rely on private tuitions, private coaching institutes and other coaching centers for their classes. ICAI centers at different cities also conduct regular classes. But, it is a fact that private classes seem to be more preferred among the student community.
So what fees does teacher’s charge for Chartered Accountancy classes?
There is no fixed answer to this! Fees for teachers differ from teacher to teacher, subject to subject and even place to place. The course fees depend and vary based on the place where it is held, the reputation of the faculty or the coaching centers. The fees collected would average around Rs. 3000 per subject for IPCC classes and Rs. 5000 per subject for the CA Finals. Some reputed teachers and institutes even charge Rs. 10000 per subject.
Online and offline video classes are also becoming popular now. They do come at a relatively higher price but gives the much-needed flexibility to the students. It helps them in managing their time for studies and offers repeat-viewing too.
